Truro Community Hub

Kemeneth – Truro Community Hub – is taking shape at Truro Methodist Church, where construction is underway to expand and enhance this historic city centre building. Supported by £952,000 from the Government’s Town Deal fund, alongside £500,000 match funding from Cornwall Council, the project will create a vibrant, inclusive space for the community.

At the heart of the development is a three-storey extension, adding 140 square metres of flexible, open-plan space to the Grade II listed building. Designed to meet a growing need for connection and support, the new facilities will include adaptable meeting and event areas, modern audio-visual technology, and a Changing Places toilet. The surrounding outdoor space will also be reimagined to include seating and a catering area, creating an inviting environment both inside and out.

“Kemeneth” – the Cornish word for “community” – reflects the vision to welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, faiths and identities. Truro Methodist Church already hosts more than 100 groups, from youth activities and social prescribing to counselling and major events such as the Cornwall Music Festival. The additional space will allow this vital work to grow in response to increasing demand, particularly around mental health, isolation and loneliness.

Alongside the extension, further space will be created within an adjacent building to provide smaller counselling and treatment rooms.

Once complete, Kemeneth will offer a central, accessible hub where people can connect, access support, and feel part of a stronger, more connected Truro community, with activities expected to begin early in the new year.
